KANO Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has donated N2 million, rice and cooking oil to the state government, as part of its contribution to cushion the effects of the lockdown on the people.

Presenting the donation to the Kano State Government on Thursday, KEDCO’s Managing Director, Alhaji Jamilu Gwamna, said it was part of their corporate social responsibility.

According to him, the 1,500 10 kilogram bags of rice and 1,500 gallons of vegetable oil are to support the government in giving palliatives to the people.

“With the current hardship faced by the people due to the lockdown, we find it necessary to contribute our quota in our franchise areas toward reducing the consequences on the people,” he said.

Gwamna commended the government for its efforts in fighting the spread of the pandemic in the state.

He said that KEDCO was committed to supporting the state government.

The managing director commiserated with the state government and the people over the recent deaths reported, praying to God to forgive the deceased.

On power supply, Gwamma said that KEDCO had improved the provision of electricity from 16-18 hours in its areas of coverage, especially residential areas.

He said that this was aimed at keeping the people comfortable while they were at home due to the stay- at -home order.

Responding, Gov. Abdullahi  Ganduje commended KEDCO for the donation.

“ No doubt, such donation to the poorest of the poor will go a long way in touching their lives,” he said.

While describing KEDCO as a friend indeed, Ganduje said the gesture came at the right time when people were in need of such assistance.

He assured Gwamma that the state’s Palliatives Distribution Committee would ensure the judicious distribution of the items, so that those it was meant for would benefit. (NAN)
