GUMEL Local Government Council of Jigawa on Monday appealed to its councillors to monitor the forthcoming second round of polio immunisation campaign in their respective wards to ensure success.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the second round of the campaign is expected to begin on April 7 across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

The council’s Information Officer, Malam Sulaiman Balago, told NAN in Dutse that the appeal became necessary owing to the need for compliance on the part of the people.

Balago said that the council’s Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Sani, had at a meeting on strategies for the second round polio immunisation campaign in Gumel, advised the councillors to ensure that the sensitisation campaign was effectively carried out.

He explained that the councillors’ presence during the campaign, would encourage the vaccinators to effectively discharge their duties.

Also speaking with NAN, Malam Yusif Sabitu, the Manager, National Programme on Polio Immunisation in the area, advised parents to keep proper record of each round polio vaccines administered to their children or wards.

Sabitu alleged that some parents were in the habit of not keeping proper records of their children’s immunisation.

Meanwhile, Malam Habu Gagarawa, the Manager, Primary Healthcare Development Agency in the council, has solicited the support and cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure a successful conduct of the exercise.  (NAN)
