Court admits teenager to N50,000 bail for allegedly stealing phone

A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja on Thursday granted a teenager, Safilayi Isah bail in the sum of N50,000, for allegedly stealing a phone.

The judge, Muhammed Wakili granted the bail with a surety in like sum after the defendant, of Kpana village, Abuja, pleaded not guilty to a count charge of theft.

The prosecutor, Ferdinand Orji earlier told the court that the complainant, Ifeanyi Obi of old Karmo, Abuja reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Aug.21.

Orji said that on the same date while the complainant was sleeping, the defendant crept into his room and stole his Iphone 7 valued at N140,000.

He added that every effort to recover the phone from the defendant during police investigation proved abortive.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Penal Code.

Wakili after granting the bail adjourned the matter until Oct.13, for hearing. (NAN)
