Court discharges taxi driver charged with stealing laptop

A Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone II on Friday discharged a taxi driver, Obodo Samson, charged with stealing a MacBook Pro Apple laptop, valued at N600,000.

Samson, who resides in Grishiri, Abuja, is charged with joint act and theft.

Magistrate Mabel Bello held that there was no reason to continue with the case, because the nominal complainant withdraw the matter.

“The defendant is discharged since the nominal complainant decided not to continue with the case’’, she held.

The Prosecution Counsel, A.S Oyeyemi, told the court that the complainant Miss Keuwe Oberabor, who resides at No. 1 Dumukofia Str. Area II, NNPC Housing Estate Garki, Abuja, reported the matter at Wuse Zone III Police Station, on July 19.

Oyeyemi alleged  Samson  stole a laptop bag containing a MacBook Pro laptop valued at N600, 000 , a charger and leather  laptop bag worth N40, 000.

He said that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections  79 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
