A Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Tuesday discharged a vulcaniser, Walid Abubakar, 20, arraigned for stealing as the complainant indicated interest to discontinue the matter.

Abubakar of no fixed address was arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and theft.

He was arraigned for stealing an Infinix Note 5, cell phone and a  pair of trousers, valued at N46,500, offences he admitted committing during  police investigation.

The prosecutor, Adeniyi Oyeyemi, told the court that one Nancy Johnson of Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuse Zone 3 Police Station on March 26.

The prosecutor said on the same day, at Wuse Zone 3, Abubakar and seven others now at large, attacked the complainant and took her handbag that contained the items mentioned above.

Oyeyemi said the offences contravened Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

He, however, said the complainant sought to discontinue the matter because the defendant’s father had fully compensated her.

The Magistrate, Mr Ahmed Ubangari, discharged the defendant and dismissed the case in line with Section 108, sub sections1 & 2(b) of Administration of Criminal Justice Act of 2015. (NAN)
