Court dissolves 18-year-old marriage over threat to life

A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Monday, dissolved a 17-year-old marriage between a teacher, Ismaila Adams and his wife, Ebun, over threat to life.
Delivering judgment, the President of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, held that the marriage was dissolved for peace to reign.
Odunade awarded custody of the two children to Ebun and ordered Adams to pay N10,000 monthly as support.
Adams, who lives in Beyerunka area of Ibadan, in his divorce petition, accused his wife of being troublesome and had made attempts on his life.
”Ebun stabbed me with a knife. I abandoned the house for her eight months in order not to be killed by her.
“Ebun is a mischievous woman who has not given me peace or my space.
“She picks up knives and broken bottles at any slightest provocation,” Adams said.
Ebun, who is a trader, told the court that her husband was a drunk.
”Adams curses and beats,” Ebun said.
She, however, begged the court not to grant her husband custody of the children because Adams might not have the time to take care of them. (NAN)
