A Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State, on Thursday granted a man, Emmanuel Praise’ request for divorce on grounds that his wife, Elizabeth beats him.

Delivering judgment, Justice Abubakar Tijjani, dissolved the 26-year-old.

He said all efforts to reconcile the parties had failed

“This union was brought to an end in the interest of peace,” he held.

Tijjani also urged the parties to maintain peace at all times, adding that violation of the order of the court would amount to contempt, with grave consequences.

He directed the parties to collect their divorce certificates from the registrar’s office.

Earlier, Praise in his petition told the court that his wife and children no longer respect him and usually beat him without provocation.

“My wife instigated my children against me. They no longer respect me. They also beat me whenever my wife orders them to.

“My children have taken sides with their mother. On Jan. 14, my first son, Wisdom, 24, beat me up and injured me on my neck and jaw,” he said.

The respondent, who however, denied the allegations.

She did not object to the petitioner’s request for divorce.
