A Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 19-year-old man, Aminu Ibrahim, to six months imprisonment for attempting to steal a car battery and a radio.

Ibrahim, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal trespass and attempt to commit theft and begged for mercy.

The judge, Sani Mohammed, who convicted Ibrahim, did not give him option of fine.

The prosecutor, Vincent Osuji, had told the court that one Daniel Soeze of Jikwoyi, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station, Abuja, on June 4.

“The complainant alleged that while he was at the security post along EFCC Road, Karu, the defendant trespassed into his duty post.

“The defendant attempted to steal a car radio and battery from a car that was parked at the car lot, before he was arrested,” Osuji said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 95 of the Penal Code.
