AN Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Thursday sentenced a 20-year old man, Ayodele Oluyemi, to six months imprisonment for defrauding a man of  N1.4 million.

The Police charged Oluyemi, whose address was not provided, with fraud, obtaining money under false pretence and conspiracy, which he had pleaded not guilty.

In her judgment, Magistrate A.O.Adeyemi, sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment with an option of N5,000 fine and also asked him to restitute N759,000 to the complainant.

Adeyemi said that the Prosecutor had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty of the charges preferred against him.

Earlier, the Prosecution, Insp. E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the convict and others still at large, committed the offences on April 2, at about 1:00 p.m.at Sango-Ota.

Adaraloye said the convict claimed that he was the owner of Wheelock Company, knowing fully well that it was not true.

He explained further that the convict and his accomplices, collected N1.4 million under pretext to assist one Afolabi Vincent to secure a Visa.

Adaraloye said that the convict converted the money to personal use, instead of fulfilling the agreement between the two parties.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9),419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.(NAN)
