Court orders arrest of Dikko
Judiciary
JUSTICE Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Abdullahi Inde Dikko, former comptroller general of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, because he repeatedly failed to attend court to answer to a charge of fraud brought against him and two others by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC.
Ojukwu, who ordered the arrest of Dikko on Monday, noted that Solomon Akuma, SAN, his lawyer, at the last adjourned date assured that he would bring him to court today instead he brought a medical report, claiming that Dikko was critically ill and on admission in London.
According to Ojukwu, Dikko’s address, as shown on the medical report – No: N6 Amhed Musa Crescent Jabi, Abuja – did not support his lawyer’s claim that he was on admission in a London hospital.
However, she said that the order should be suspended if the prosecution, in executing the bench warrant, discovers that Dikko is actually on admission in a London hospital.
Ojukwu ordered that if Dikko is not in a London hospital, he should be arrested and brought to the court on March 16, the next adjourned date for arraignment.
