Court remands 2 men for alleged possession of firearms

AN Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Thursday ordered that two men, Sheriff Olaniyan, 50; and Taiwo Yekini, 33, be remanded in Ibadan correctional centre for alleged unlawful possession of firearms.
The two suspects whose residential addresses were not provided were charged with conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Enilolobo did not take the plea of the defendants for want in jurisdiction.
She directed the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
She adjourned the case until July 31 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu told the court that the defendants committed the offence on May 9, at about 10.30p.m in Muslim area of Ibadan.
Adedosu alleged that the duo unlawfully possessed locally made single-barrel gun without lawful authority.
She said the offences contravened Sections 6b and 3 of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of the Federation, 2004. (NAN)
