AN FCT High Court, Nyanya, on Monday remanded three young men in police custody for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery.

The accused, Sunday Godwin, 23, Solomon Joseph, 23 and Gift Ishaiku, 20, all residents of Dutse Makaranta, Abuja, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police arraigned them on a three-count of alleged conspiracy, armed robbery and belonging to a gang of armed robbers.

Justice Mauwiya Baba-Idris remanded them in custody after the prosecuting counsel, John Ijagbemi, told the court that prosecution needed time to study the bail application filed by the defence counsel.

Ijagbemi earlier told the court that the defendants conspired among themselves on April 14 at about 12 a.m. at Dutse Makaranta, Abuja, to commit the offence.

He said they were armed with dangerous weapons when they attacked and robbed one Joseph Salvation of his Infinix hot 8 cell phone, Techno T361 cell phone, a wireless Bluetooth and N1,000 naira.

He also told the court that investigations showed that the accused are members of a robbery gang terrorising the area.

The third defendant’s counsel, Benjamin Ogbeamgba told the court that he filed a motion for bail and had served the prosecution, but Ijagbemi countered that he needed time to study and respond to the motion. The court adjourned the case to Oct.16 for hearing on the bail application. (NAN)
