AN Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered that three men, who pleaded guilty to stealing a motorcycle, be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, pending sentencing.
The police charged Bassey Ita, 27, a harstylist; Victor Bassey, 22, a mechanic; and Nofia Mohammed, 20, a motorcyclist with conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen goods.
Magistrate A.S Odusanya ordered that Ita, Bassy and Mohammed be remanded until July 6 for presentation of facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that they committed the offence in May 26 at Omole Phase 2, Ikeja.
He said that the first and second defendants, stole an unregistered motorcycle worth N235,000 belonging to Mr Saidu Mutari and sold it to the third defendant.
When the first and second defendants were eventually arrested, he said, they led the police to the buyer of the stolen motorcycle.
The offences, Ajayi said, contravened the provisions of sections 287(2), 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section 287 attracts 14 years’ imprisonment for stealing while section 328 also prescribes 14 years for receiving stolen goods. (NAN)
