A Grade I Area Court in Dei-dei, Abuja on Thursday remanded an artisan, Ejike Eze, in a correctional centre for allegedly setting a truck on fire.
The police charged Eze with mischief by fire. Eze pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada told the court that the complainant, Abel Omorogbe reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Feb.16.
Ogada alleged that the defendant intentionally set fire on the complainant’s truck parked at his site in Kubwa.
He said the truck was valued at N7million.
He said the offence contravened Section 337 of the Penal Code.
The News of Nigeria (NAN) reports that “Section 337 states that whoever commits mischief by fire intending to cause destruction of any building, human dwelling or a place shall be punished with imprisonment for life or for any less term and shall also be liable to fine,”
The trial Judge, Saminu Suleiman, however, adjourned the matter until April 11 for further hearing. (NAN)
