A Mararaba Upper Area Court sitting in Nasarawa State, on Monday remanded a businessman, Sa’adu Hassan, in prison for alleged fraud of N2.4 million.

The judge, Mohammed Jibril, ordered that Hassan be remanded in prison until Oct. 26, after he failed to meet his bail condition of N3 million.

The defendant, who resides in Taraba State, is being tried for criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating.

He, however denied the charges brought against him.

The prosecutor, Insp. Hamen Donald, told the court that the victim, Kawu Gombe, reported the matter at Mararaba Division ‘A’ Police Station on Aug. 24.

“The complainant alleged that the defendant conspired with one Shagari and one Baba, surnames withheld, who are both at large, and defrauded him of N2.4 million.

“The defendant dishonestly collected the sum of N2.4 million, promised to sell dollars to him, instead, he converted the said money to his own personal use,” Donald said.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene sections 97, 312, and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
