AN Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Ishaya Madaki, at a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, who did not take the plea of Madaki, ordered that the case file should be sent to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
She held that Madaki should be kept at the Kirikiri custodial facility pending the DPP’s advice.
Kubeinje adjourned the case until April 18, for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that Madaki committed the offence between Sept. and Oct. 2020 at a post service Housing Estate, Iyana Iba, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant had forcefully had sexual intercourse with the girl without her consent.
“The girl who lives around the defendant’s neighbourhood was cornered and deceived by him on her way back from school.
“Madaki deceived the girl when he told her that someone that they both know, had a package and she should come to get it in his room,” the prosecutor said.
He said that the alleged offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The section states that any person who has unlawful sexual intercourse with a child, is guilty of felony and liable to imprisonment for life.(NAN)
