AN Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Thursday, ordered that a 27-year-old man, Bidemi Olanrewaju, be remanded in an Ile-Ife correctional centre for alleged armed robbery and rape.

The police charged Olanrewaju with armed robbery and rape.

Magistrate Ayeni A.A.,  did not take the plea of Olanrewaju, saying his court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case.

Ayeni ordered that the police to return the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

He adjourned the case until Sept 16.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi told the court that Olanrewaju committed the offence on July 25, 2020 in Fajuyi area, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that Olanrewaju, armed with a gun and an axe, robbed a 20-year-old girl and one other of their two mobile phones and a bag containing N4,500.

He said that Olanrewaju also raped the 20-year-old woman.

The offence, he said, is punishable under section 1(1), (2)(a)(b),3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Vol 14, Laws of Federation, 2004 and contravened sections 358 and 360 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
