Court remands man for attempting to steal drugs from hospital

AN Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday in Lagos, ordered that a 33- year-old man, Ibraheem Abubakar, who pleaded guilty to attempt to steal drugs from a hospital store, be remanded in the Kirikiri correctional cente.
Magistrate A. J Odueke adjourned the matter until Oct. 6 for sentencing.
The defendant, an unemployed man, who resides at 4, Ogunmokun St., Mushin, Lagos, is charged with attempted theft.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, ASP Racheal Williams, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on Aug. 16 in Ikeja.
Williams said that the defendant posed as a member of staff of the hospital, gained access to its store and attempted to open it to steal drugs and other medical items.
She said that the defendant was caught with the key with which he attempted to force the store lock open.
The prosecutor also said that, when questioned after being caught, the defendant could not give any satisfactory explanation as to why he wanted to force the door open.
She said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 406 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.(NAN)
