A Surulere Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday ordered that a 21-year-old man, Uche Young, be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, accused of raping and abducting a 15-year-old girl.
The police arraigned the accused who resides at No 17, Enisoro Biyoku St., Ajao, Surulere, Lagos on charges of rape and abduction.
Magistrate M.I Dan-Oni, who did not take the plea of the accused, ordered the prosecution to send the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
Dan-Oni adjourned the case until Jan. 20, 2021, for mention. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on Oct. 7 at his residence.
He told the court that the victim admitted that the accused had carnal knowledge of her after she was seen coming out of his apartment.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged offences contravene the provisions of Sections 269 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The section attracts life in prison for any convict. (NAN)
