Court remands teenager for alleged armed robbery

AN Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Friday ordered that  Samson Olagoke, 19, be remanded in a correction centre for alleged armed robbery.

The police charged Olagoke, whose residential address was not provided with conspiracy and armed robbery.

Magistrate Abimbola Amole-Ajimoti did not take the plea of Olagoke for want in jurisdiction.

She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until Sept. 15 for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Philip Amusan told the court that Olagoke committed the offence on June 15, at about 3. 58 a.m, at the Unity Estate, Akanran road, Ibadan.

Amusan alleged that Olagoke and others at large, while armed with a gun, cutlasses robbed  Hammed Akintayo of his Samsung cell phone worth N100, 000 and one iPhone 8 plus worth N200, 000.

Amusan alleged that Olagoke also robbed the complainant of iPhone 12 pro max worth N560,000, one Tecno phone, N70,000, one power bank, N10,000 and laptop worth N180, 000.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 6b and 1(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms laws, 2004.

In a related development, the security guard of the Unity Estate, Olabayo Afeez, 38, was charged with negligent duty.

Amusan said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 515 of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Magistrate Amole-Ajimoti granted the security guard bail in the sum of N20, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

She also adjourned the case until Sept. 15, for hearing. (NAN)
