A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that a 27-year-old tricycle rider, Abubakar Haruna, who attempted to defile a four-year-old girl, be remanded in a correctional facility, pending legal advice.

Magistrate Hajara Dauda, who did not take the plea of Haruna, ordered the police to return the case file to the Kaduna State Director of Public Prosecutions.

She adjourned the case until Sept. 30 for mention.

Haruna, who resides in Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna, is charged with attempted defilement.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Sunday Baba, told the court that the defendant Haruna committed the offence on Aug. 29.

Baba said that the suspect lured the  girl into a classroom  and attempted to defile her.

“The defendant was in the process of removing his trouser when some women saw him and raised an alarm,” Baba said.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 260 and 57 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017. (NAN)
