Court remands unemployed man in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly robbery

AN Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded one Aaron Igirigi, 21, to for allegedly robbing some pedestrians of their phones at knife point.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.C Ayinde, who refused to to take the defendant ‘s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre until April 21, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The defendant, an unemployed man, who resides at 17, Adamson St., Ketu, Lagos, is being prosecuted on a three-count charge of conspiracy, robbery and possession of dangerous weapons.

The prosecutor, Insp Segun Oke told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 10 at Mile 12, under bridge , Ketu, Lagos.

Oke said that the defendant and his other accomplices, who are now at large, robbed some pedestrian of their mobile phones using a knife and other dangerous weapons.

The prosecutor said that troop from the 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja, who were on patrol duty, received information that a gang of armed robbers were robbing pedestrians of their mobile phones under the bridge.

Oke said that the personnel of army on getting there, the defendant was apprehended while others escaped.

Oke said that the defendant robbed Mr Sola Olayiwola of his mobile phone valued, N50,000, before he was apprehended.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 297, 299 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.(NAN)
