A HIGH court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, on Thursday, June 22, granted an interim injunction restraining Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, from sacking more than 4,000 district and village heads.
El-Rufai had sacked 4,776 district and village heads following the recommendations of the committee that reviewed the number of the traditional heads in the state.
The interim injunction restrained the authorities from taking steps to fill the offices of the district and village heads pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice.
Also, an order of interim injunction was granted restraining the defendants/respondents from doing anything with the consequences of being prejudicial to the plaintiffs’ continued occupation of their offices pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The presiding judge, Justice S.S Daka, said the restraining order was based on the presentation of Abdullahi Bello, counsel to the applicants, and adjourned the matter to June 29, 2017 for hearing the motion on notice.
Jafaru Sani, commissioner for Local Government in the state, said the restructuring was done to reduce financial burden on local government councils.
