THE Chairman of Conference of Civil Service Doctors, Anambra State, Dr Livinus Chukwuma, on Tuesday, March 24 announce,d the suspension of their 3-week-old strike.                                                                                                                                 Addressing a news conference at the Onitsha, General Hospital Dr. Chukwuma said the association embarked on an indefinite strike on March 1, to protest neglect of doctors in the civil service by the Government of the state.

According to him, considering the current threat of the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, particularly its presence in Nigeria, the doctors in Anambra State feel that it would be a mark of dishonour to the people of the state to remain on strike,  while they would be facing looming danger.                                                                                                                                                                 The scar of the eventual outcome will be indelible in the minds of the public and the doctors too, especially with the government’s effort to set up a committee to look into their case. In line with the oath we swore to uphold the health of our citizens, we have decided to suspend the strike in order to be combat-ready for the COVID-19 pandemic.                                                                                                                                                          “This is a sacrifice expected of us and must be made. The strike is by this briefing suspended. All Doctors are to be at their places of work from March 25 at a time not later than 0800 hours. It is our hope that the state government will utilise the time to fine-tune actions toward a lasting solution to the lingering issues with doctors.
