The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), has distributed educational materials, food and non-food items to over 1,500 People of Concern (POC) in Adamawa.
Sen. Basheer Mohammed, a Federal Commissioner in the commission, flagged off the distribution of the items in Yola on Thursday.
Mohammed represented by Bello Mohammed, Assistant Director in the commission, said that the exercise was to bring succour to People of Concern, living in camps in various relocations from COVID-19 lockdown hardship.
“We are in Adamawa, as part of the commission’s efforts to give comfort to the People of Concern that include Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in different locations of the state.
“The commission as part of its mandate, is flagging off distribution of food and non-food items, educational materials and agricultural inputs to the People of Concern.
“The gesture is under the directive and support of President Muhammadu Buhari to the Displaced Persons and other People of Concern in the country,” Mohammed said.
He said that the commission was ready to continue to support Adamawa Government in providing care, maintenance services and special intervention for sustainable solution to problems of People of Concern in the state.
In his remark, Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by Dr Mohammed Suleiman, Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) thanked the commission for the intervention.
Fintiri said that the issue of maintaining the People of Concern in the state, was among the challenges facing the state government.
“We highly appreciate the gesture. However, we are appealing to the Federal Government to do more and help the state government to tackle the issue of People of Concern,” the governor said.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Yohanna Pwadi, from Numan, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, for the intervention.
Pwadi said that the gesture would go a long way in assisting to improve their livelihood, as well as boost their income generation.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that some of the items distributed are: food and non-food items, improved maize, groundnut and rice seedlings, herbicides and water pump machines for irrigation, among others. (NAN)
