Coronavirus Pandemic

TAILORING Association, Ikole Ekiti chapter on Friday said that the outbreak of the coronavirus has caused a lull in business.

Some members of the association told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikole Ekiti that since the outbreak of the virus in the state, patronage had been “very low’’.

They said that some of the tailors started making face mask to earn money, while others even found it difficult to feed from the sales of the mask.

Mr Sunday Oguntuase, one of the tailors said that most of the clothes that he sowed for customers had been abandoned.

Oguntuase said that most of his customers decided to spend money on food stuffs and basic amenities than sowing new clothes because not everybody benefited from the palliative given by the state government.

He prayed to God to erase the virus from the state soonest to able them continue their normal businesses.

Another tailor, Mr Jubril Aliyu said that the lockdown which was part of the measures to curb the spread of the virus had caused financial challenge for him.

According to Aliyu, there are over 30 pieces of sowed clothes yet to be collected by his customers as a result of the lockdown.

He prayed that God should bring lasting solution to the coronavirus pandemic in Ekiti and in the country as a whole.

Another tailor, Mr Bayo Fasakin said that some of his customers were not even ready to patronise him.

Fasakin said that the only thing that he had been busy doing in his shop was to sow face masks which other tailors and apprentices were equally doing.

He said that he was able to make little profits from the sales of the masks because both male and female tailors were also doing the business.

Fasakin appealed to the state government to extend the number of days of relaxing the lockdown to enable customers patronise them.

Some other tailors who also spoke with NAN said that they had not been able to make any profitable business since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in Ekiti. (NAN)
