Coronavirus Pandemic

An NGO, the Caleb Danladi Foundation, on Saturday distributed food items to an orphanage and widows in Southern Kaduna to cushion the economic effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the distribution was flagged off at the Gyabhyih Shezhi Daddu Orphanage home, in Jaba Local Government Area and Afana Bajju community in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of the state.

Capt. Caleb Danladi, the Founder of the Foundation, said that the gesture became imperative due to the negative effect the lockdown was having on the people, especially those making their living through daily earnings.

“In this period, we understand that the partial lockdown in activities will affect some households.

“There are some people that are daily earners and it will be hard for them to make both ends meet.

“That is why we thought it wise as a Foundation and using our resources to give back to the society from the little we have to 600 families in Southern part of our state,” he said.

According to him, the gesture would be extended to other local government areas in the Southern Kaduna region in the coming days.

In his remarks, the Coordinator of the Foundation, Mr Habila Kayit, said the foundation would continue to partner with other NGOs to ensure food sufficiency in the region during hard times like this.

Also speaking, the Council Secretary of Jaba Local Government Area, Mr Stephen Daniel, lauded the efforts of the foundation, adding that the lockdown had started to take its toll on residents of the state.

One of the beneficiaries, Abigail Kato, said the gesture was timely, especially during this time.

“These palliatives couldn’t have come at a better time than now as it will go a long way to reduce the hardship poor people like us are passing through at this difficult time.

“We want to thank the foundation for deeming us worthy and coming to our rescue at this crucial time that we all found ourselves. We would forever be grateful,” she added.

She called on the state government to do more in ameliorating the suffering of the downtrodden during the lockdown period.

NAN reports that some of the food items distributed includes cartoons of indomie, bags of rice and beans, and groundnut oil, among others. (NAN)
