Coronavirus Pandemic

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) on Friday donated some food items to the Delta Government to help cushion the effect of COVID-19 lockdown on the people.

The items donated were 1,664 bags of rice each weighing five kilogrammes, 483 of Semovita flour each weighing five kilogrammes and 307 cartons of spaghetti.

The Representative of TETFund, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, said the items were the fund’s contribution toward alleviating the hardship faced by the people as a result of the lockdown.

Receiving the items on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Mofe Pirah, thanked the donor and promised that the items would be given to the targeted beneficiaries.

Pirah said that COVID-19 pandemic had devastated the world, adversely affected the economy and made many people vulnerable.

“The state government in its determination to cushion the effect of the lockdown established four food banks across the state.

“We appeal to wealthy individuals, corporate bodies and philanthropic organisations to assist with food and other items,” he said. (NAN)
