TWO Ebonyi state Executive Council members who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered and discharged.

The duo, Professor Ogbonnaya Chukwu who is the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, and the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Clement Nweke, were discharged on Monday after spending about one-week receiving treatment.

They were officially discharged from the newly constructed 300-bed capacity coronavirus and other infectious diseases treatment centre located at the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

Recall that Ebonyi Government last week announced that some members of the State’s Executive Council had tested positive for the pandemic.

Consequently, Governor Umahi announced the shutting down of the State’s Executive Council for seven days, which would elapse on Wednesday this week, and ordered all EXCO members to embark on compulsory test for the virus within the period.

He directed the State civil servants to work from home within the seven days period.

Umahi also ordered for the immediate fumigation of government houses.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, at the occasion, thanked God for the survival of the two government officials. Umezurike urged the general public to continue to obey NCDC safety protocols. – The Nation
