Coronavirus Pandemic
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has donated over 450,000 behaviour change and communication materials to Kano State Government, to enhance awareness creation activities on COVID-19 safety protocols.
Mr Micheal Banda, the Chief of UNICEF Field Office, Kano, stated this at the presentation of the materials to the state government on Thursday in Kano.
Banda said that the materials were produced in three languages to promote knowledge and understanding of the virus as well as curve spread of the pandemic in the state.
He said UNICEF has been working closely with the Risk Communication and Community Engagement team, to produce and adapt the materials for effective enlightenment.
The UNICEF official said that although the viral infection had waned in the state, there was the need for the people to be proactive in ensuring adherence to the preventive and safety protocols of the pandemic.
“UNICEF adopts and disseminate authentic information on the protocols provided by professional bodies and translate it for the benefit of the vulnerable groups that have limited or no access to information,” he said.
He called on the state government to sustain the community sample collection exercise, to enhance detection and curve community transmission of the virus.
Dr IbrahimTsanyawa, the state’s Commissioner for Health, commended the gesture, adding that it would go a long way to stem further spread of the pandemic.
Tsanyawa noted that the state government recorded significant successes in the campaign against the pandemic sequel to mass community counseling, testing and engagement as well as training of health personnel.
While commending stakeholders for their support to the COVID-19 campaign in the state, Tsanyawa pledged to ensure the effective utilization of the donated items.
