The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Ahmad Abdurrahman, has assured residents of adequate police deployment and hitch-free Isi-Uzo State Constituency Election in Enugu State on Saturday.
This assurance is contained in a statement issued by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, on Thursday in Enugu.
Abdurrahman said he had directed maximum deployment of personnel from various units, formations as well as divisions in the state for election duty.
The Commissioner also gave the assurance of putting in place adequate security before, during and after the election.
He, however, charged the police personnel to be professional in the discharge of their duties, adding that “anything in the contrary will be met with severe sanctions’’.
“Electorate should shun all forms of electoral malpractices and violence during the bye-election.
“Political parties and their stalwarts should exhibit a high sense of decorum and sportsmanship by shunning acts inimical to the peaceful conduct of the election.
“However, the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on anyone found wanting,’’ he said.
He also urged the electorate to go out and exercise their franchise without fear or favour, and conduct themselves in accordance with the election’s rules and regulations.
“I urge the electorate as well as residents of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area and its environs to be peaceful and vigilant.
“They should promptly report acts of electoral malpractices and violence observed during the election by calling the Command’s hotlines on: 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 or 08098880172,’’ he added. (NAN)
