The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday received 150 personnel, deployed by the Force Headquarters under its strategic operation, “Operation Puff Adder II”.
Receiving the operatives in Abuja, Mr Bala Ciroma, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, said the deployment would strengthen security, dismantle and dislodge all criminal hideouts within the territory.
Ciroma said the operatives, drawn from the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and Special Forces, would reinforce the on-going counter kidnapping operations.
According to him, the command will anchor on the operation to foster community policing and collaboration with sister security agencies in the FCT.
He called on the personnel deployed within the FCT in the operation to be professional, firm, dedicated, civil with law-abiding citizens and ruthless to all criminal elements.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Inspector General of Police (I-G), Mr Mohammed Adamu, on Monday, inaugurated the strategic operation, “Operation Puff Adder II”.
Adamu said the operation, involving the deployment of human and operational assets was to address the emerging security challenges and rid the country of criminal elements.
He said the operational plan of “Puff Adder II” in the first phase was to focus on the restoration of peace and security in the North West and North Central geopolitical zones of the country.
Adamu said the phase one of the deployment plan would cover Zanfara, Kaduna State, Katsina State, Kogi, Nasarawa State, Niger, Sokoto State, Benue, Kebbi and the FCT.
NAN also recalls that the I-G, in April 2019, inaugurated “Operation Puff Adder”, an operation informed by the commitment of the police to present an effective operational framework.
The operation was aimed at reclaiming the public space from criminals that were bent on threatening the internal security of the country.
Adamu said: “Much as major achievements have been recorded under “Operation Puff Adder” the dynamic nature of crime continue to present new trends.
“This has made it imperative for us to continually reevaluate our strategies and emplace new operational architecture to sustain the gains, already recorded.”(NAN)
