THE Journalists covering this year’s U.S. presidential election are doing so in an increasingly polarized political climate and with high levels of distrust in the media. To help newsrooms and journalists, the Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ, has published a guide with actionable steps to bolster physical and digital safety when it comes to covering the 2024 U.S. election.

The CPJ’s guide includes information for editors and newsrooms to assess the safety of their journalists and protect themselves from digital threats. It also provides safety tools for covering election rallies and demonstrations, where journalists may face aggression and armed extremists. Journalists can use this safety kit to prepare themselves for increased security challenges in the lead-up to the election, as well as on election day.

Alongside the 2024 U.S. election safety guide, CPJ has compiled a set of resources to help journalists in assessing and mitigating potential election-related risks, as well as finding legal support and dealing with online harassment.
