Cricket: Saint Helena arrives Abuja for WCQ

SAINT Helena’s Cricket team, have arrived Abuja ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Sub-Regional World Cup Qualifiers C.
The Qualifiers is scheduled for Nov. 23 to Nov. 28 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
In a statement by Emeka Igwilo, the General Manager of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), the team arrived early so they could acclimatise with the Nigerian weather ahead of the Qualifiers.
Igwilo, who is also the Tournament Director, noted that plans are in place to ensure a great outing for all teams.
“With the arrival of St Helena, we are now expecting Botswana, Eswatini, and two other West African neighbors, Cote D’Ivoire and Sierra Leone will
join Nigeria later in the week.
“Our team has done a great deal of work to put the facilities in the best shape and we look forward to the great games that would be played at the NCF twin ovals.
“Over 200 players, officials, and ad-hoc workers will be at all week at the event that will put Nigeria at the center stage of global cricket action,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the opening encounter of the 15-match qualifier will see Eswatini take on Botswana at the Oval 1 of the NCF Cricket Pitch on Nov. 23.
Nigeria’s first test at the event will be against St Helena on Oval 2 later in the afternoon of the aforementioned date.
NAN reports that, of the six teams participating in the Qualifiers, the top two will progress to the next round of qualification. (NAN)
