Crime prevention: Niger police command solicits traditional rulers, stakeholders’ support

THE Police Command in Niger on Wednesday solicited the support of traditional rulers and other stakeholders in the fight against criminal activities in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Dibal Yakadi, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna, shortly after he held a closed-door meeting with traditional rulers, village and development associations, among other stakeholders.

Yakadi said the role of the royal fathers in promoting peaceful coexistence among the people was very important.

He urged the traditional rulers to foster friendship and harmony among their subjects to enable them to get intelligence information about miscreants in their domains.

He said that with the efforts of the traditional rulers and other stakeholders at sensitising residents to be security conscious, the state would be safe against any form of security threats.

The commissioner said that the command would continue to enhance community policing as part of the various security measure put in place to confront any form of threats to lives and property in the state .

He said that already, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers had been directed to hold regular meetings with stakeholders on how to promote security of lives and property in the state.

Yakadi also urged the traditional rulers to come up with useful advice on how to curtail cattle rustling and kidnapping in the state. (NAN)
