THE Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has set up a panel of inquiry to look into the allegation of harassment and shooting at motorists in Ibadan by its airmen last Friday.
Sqn. Ldr. Chidinma Ojukwu, Acting Command Public Relations Officer (PRO), Headquarters Logistics Command, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.
An online publication had reported that soldiers (NAF airmen) harassed and shot at motorists around Iwo Road area of Ibadan on Nov 9.
“The attention of the Logistics Command of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been drawn to an online publication alleging that soldiers (NAF airmen) were harassing and shooting motorists around the Iwo Road area of Ibadan on Friday, Nov. 9.
“A preliminary investigation has therefore been conducted into the incident and it was evident that the account as reported was not accurate but rather misleading,” Ojukwu said.
The acting PRO said that any NAF personnel found wanting or culpable of any offence after full investigation must be punished in accordance with the law of the land.
He said that the NAF was committed to professionalism and was responsible to the Nigerian people.
Ojukwu assured the public that the NAF, being a highly professional and disciplined force, would not tolerate any acts of indiscipline in violation of the rights of Nigerians.
The spokesman added that the public would be kept informed on the outcome of the investigations. – NAN
