Cross River govt. begins construction of abandoned Abim River Bridge

THE Cross River Government says work has begun on the Abim River Bridge linking some farming communities in the Etung and Ikom Local Government Areas of the state.
Mr Christian Ita, the Chief Press Secretary and Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Ben Ayade, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on Wednesday.
Ita said that the project was abandoned for over 60 years.
He said: “Yes, the governor, during his campaign, directed that work begins immediately on the bridge and the road linking some important crop-producing communities.
“These communities are Okuni, (Ikom) Okoroba, Ekang and Nsofang in Etung. These are farming communities.
“Work has commenced and we are expecting that very soon, the bridge will be ready for inauguration.”
Ita gave the assurance that the governor was ready to provide more dividend of democracy in his second tenure and urged greater support from the citizenry. -NAN
