Cross River secure funding for a rail project
General News
GOV. Bassey Otu of Cross River says his administration has secured funding for a groundbreaking railway project to connect the southern and northern regions of the state.
Otu made the disclosure at the State Executive Council meeting in Calabar on Friday.
The governor said the railway line would link Bakassi Local Government Area in the southern part of the state with Ogoja, Obudu, and Bakwarra local government areas in the northern district.
He stated that the project would significantly enhance the transportation of agricultural products, which were abundant across the state.
“This railway line will not only improve connectivity within the state but also serve as a vital link for easy movement of our agricultural produce, boosting trade and economic growth.
“In addition to the railway project, our administration is committed to revolutionising the state’s educational infrastructure.
“We will overhaul at least 1,000 schools across Cross River, focusing on both primary and secondary education.
“My expectation is a complete transformation of our schools, from the construction and renovation of classroom blocks to furnishing.
“It will ultimately improve the quality of education and outcomes for our students,” the governor said.
Otu also acknowledged the growing positive attitude of residents and businesses toward governance, noting a significant increase in tax revenue. (NAN)
