A Civil Society Organisation (CSO), Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN), has urged corporate bodies and philanthropists to invest in the health sector to enhance service delivery and improve patient outcomes.
ACOMIN Coordinator, Baba Ali-Hadejia, made this call at a media meeting on the Global Fund Malaria Community-Led Monitoring Project in Jigawa state on Wednesday.
He emphasised that such investments were part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and would address the deterioration of health facilities across the country.
Ali-Hadejia noted that good health was essential for a thriving society, but many health facilities in the country were in disrepair.
He called on government agencies, the private sector, mass media, and communities to increase investments in upgrading and maintaining health facilities.
He said the community-led monitoring project in Jigawa state had yielded positive results, including the construction of new primary healthcare centres, renovation of existing ones, and provision of boreholes.
To address the challenges facing the health sector, Ali-Hadejia called on all stakeholders to take decisive action.
He urged federal, state, and local governments to prioritise health infrastructure in their budgets.
“Community leaders and members should support local healthcare centres through volunteerism and community-driven maintenance projects and fundraising.
“Philanthropists and private sector partners should view healthcare investment as part of their social responsibility.”
Babandi Habu, the state Chairman of the National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (NACHPN), represented the association at the meeting.
He called for the establishment of Health Facility Development Committees to provide immediate assistance and foster a sense of ownership and accountability.(NAN)
