The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme is part of MTN Foundation’s (MTNF) Learning Support Materials Initiative (LSMI) designed to empower students with essential academic tools.
Speaking during the presentation, Ifeanyichukwu Udom, the Senior Manager, Sales and Trade Development, MTN Oyo Business Area, said that the initiative contributed to MTN’s mission of enhancing education.
She noted that the school was nominated by the Wife of the Oyo State governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, for the support.
Udom added that the Foundation was open to nominations from stakeholders in society for different MTNF initiatives.
“Our commitment is to foster an enabling environment for learning and support access to quality education.
“At MTN Nigeria Foundation, we believe that education is the cornerstone of growth and development, and every student deserves access to resources necessary to unlock their full potential.
“Several other initiatives are being carried out in mixed and boys high schools all over the country, including students with special needs.
“We believe this will be another stepping stone towards academic excellence by the students.
“Oyo State will remain a focus in our future initiatives, as we collaborate to drive growth and development for more positive impacts,” she said.
Also speaking, the Wife of the governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, lauded MTNF Foundation for the initiative targeted at shaping the future of the students to become better version of themselves.
Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, the first lady urged MTNF to collaborate with the state government in training and empowerment of teachers to improve their abilities.
She charged the foundation to scale up the initiative to address inclusivity, particularly students with special needs, in the society.
The Principal of the school, Mrs Olayinka Makanjuola, said that the initiative was a significant contribution to school’s commitment of enhancing the learners approach to their studies.
She encourage the students to take full advantage of the initiative, noting that it would equip them to make informed decisions about their studies.
A beneficiary, Rebecca Ayinde in Junior Secondary School (JSS) 1, appreciated MTNF for the gesture, saying that the learning materials would help motivate her to do well in her studies. (NAN)
