Cured Mental Patients discharged in Anambra

THE Welfare and Rehabilitation Centre, Ministry of Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs has discharged second batch “certified mentally cured patients’’ at Nteje.

Chikwelu Victoria, commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, who represented the governor at the occasion, thanked the Almighty God for the kind-heartedness, with which the governor and his wife established the centre.

Chikwelu, then, announced that 48 patients were discharged to various states, including Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta, Ogun, Oyo, Edo and Bayelsa.

“We did not only discharge them, but empowered them in various skills to enable them to re-adapt into the society,” she said.

The commissioner, warned youths to imbibe good virtues and stop drug abuse because “80 per cent of cases of mental illness today is caused by drug abuse’’.

Nkechi Okafor, one of the beneficiaries, on behalf of others thanked the governor and his wife for their kind gesture in providing opportunity to be re-integrated back to the society.
