THE Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, on Tuesday handed over 1,165 parcels of Cannabis Sativa  to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The Area Comptroller, Mr Mohammed Shuaibu, handed over the drugs to Mr Olusegun Adeyeye, the Commander of NDLEA, Idiroko Special Area Command, at Idiroko, Ogun.

Shuaibu said that the command was handing over the intercepted parcels of the illicit drug to NDLEA as part of inter-agency collaboration.

The comptroller said that the parcels comprised 780 coconut-sized, 225  book-sized and 160  bread-sized.

“This handover is in line with our commitment to strengthening partnership with other security agencies to combat drug trafficking and ensure a safer society,” the comptroller said.

Responding, Adeyeye commended the customs command for  resilience and success  in the fight against drug trafficking.

He said that  effects of illicit drugs use in the society had been terrible, adding that  it increased crime rate and destroyed  destinies.

Adeyeye said that the parcels would be destroyed and the suspects invesigated and prosecuted.

He urged collective efforts in fighting drug trafficking. (NAN)
