THE Director-General of the Electoral Institute, Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris has called on stakeholders who will be involved in the Continuous Voters Registration in Edo and Ondo states to imbibe high professional values and observe due diligence in the course of the exercise.

Idris gave the advice at the Training of Trainers (ToT) in preparation for the deployment of trainers for the CVR in Edo and Ondo states.

He said that the gathering was one among a series of ToTs and as the dates draw closer, stakeholders would keep meeting to rub minds, disseminate necessary information and motivate ourselves for the task at hand.

“This training is aimed at equipping you with the required skills and methodology deployed by the Commission for the purpose of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

“The expectations of voters concerning the exercise is high and the Continuous Voter Registration Officials who would be trained by you are expected to conduct themselves professionally in line with the CVR guiding principles to meet the aspirations of the Voting population.

“Consequently, it is expected that you listen attentively and participate fully in this workshop so that you can facilitate effectively and deliver the mandate obligated upon you.

“It is imperative on you therefore, as trainers to interrogate all issues surrounding the operations of INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) technology and the Guidelines for the Conduct of Continuous Voter Registration.

“Roll up your sleeves and give it your 100 percent as I trust you will, “ Idris said.

He noted that many of them have done the exercise before so its really nothing new besides a couple of upgrading and he expressed the believe they will achieve the collective aim of a successful CVR exercise and consequently, credible polls in the coming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

He expressed appreciation to the directors of collaborating departments: Director ICT, Director VR and Director Voter Education and Publicity who by their various contributions and presentations would make the training robust and worthwhile.

“Once again, we appreciate your support, time, desire and willingness to share knowledge and we look forward to working with you on other endeavors.”

He noted that adequate arrangements have been made by the Commission for the success of the exercise and it was incumbent on all participating staff to ensure effective management in adherence to the extant rules throughout every stage of the electoral process.

“I appeal to you to uphold our code of conduct, display your usual sense of commitment and professionalism.”

Idris also extended his appreciation to the Honorable Chairman and other members of the Commission, Chairman and Members of the Board of the Electoral Institute (BEI) for providing the enabling environment for the training to take place.

“I therefore urge all Trainers in general and particularly the State Training Officers (STOs) of Edo and Ondo states to please give this training all the attention it deserves as the task of conducting a successful Continuous Voter Registration exercise in your respective states is a shared responsibility.”
