Dabiri–Erewa hails appointment of British Nigerian, Katung as Lord Mayor in Leeds

ABIKE Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, has congratulated Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung, a British Nigerian and the newly appointed Lord Mayor of Leeds, the first citizen of Leeds, for the term 2024-2025.

In the same vein, the NIDCOM boss congratulated Tope Awotona, a Nigerian-born entrepreneur, who has officially been declared the richest immigrant residing in the US.

In a congratulatory message through the Director of Media and Public Relations, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, she described the appointment and attainment of the duo as very well deserved.

Dabiri-Erewa said that she was not surprised about the appointment of Councillor Katung going by her past achievements and records, which had positive impacts on humanity.

She prayed for a successful and impactful tenure for her and urged Nigerians in Leeds to continue to rally round and give her necessary support geared towards national development.

It will be recalled that Councillor Katung made history as the first elected African Councillor in Leeds.

She is currently the Chair of Scrutiny Board for Infrastructure, Investment and Inclusive Growth.

Tope Awotona, a 42-year old Nigerian-born and founder/CEO of the scheduling software company, Calendly, has risen as the richest Nigerian immigrant residing in the United States of America.

According to Forbes, Awotona, who relocated to the US during his teenage years, holds a net worth of $1.2 billion while his company variation worth over $3 billion.
