OLUSEGUN Mimiko, former governor of Ondo State, has described a national chairmanship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Gbenga Daniel as a man of courage, resilience and optimism who can run the affairs of the party creditably well.
Mimiko stated this as he received Otunba Daniel and his campaign team in his Ondo residence on Sunday.
He expressed his excitement on the visit of Otunba Daniel and reiterated his belief that the Southwest should produce the Chairman of the party praying that the delegates get their acts right by choosing the best candidate for the job.
Earlier, Daniel congratulated Mimiko on his remarkable achievements while running the affairs as Governor in Ondo State.
He noted that Dr. Mimiko gave a good account of himself both as a politician and as a professional recounting his exemplary performance in the health sector which became a benchmark for other States. “You have done very well in terms of human capital development. There is no doubting the fact that you had a glorious tenure and the people of Ondo State will always remember you for the good governance you provided while in office”, he stated.
Daniel recounted his visits to the Northern, Eastern and Southern parts of the country during his on-going nationwide campaign for Chairmanship of the party and the feedback from the people is that the present government is not performing according to expectation and that the PDP should put its house in order and get credible people to lead the party back to power in 2019.
According to Daniel, the challenge facing the nation is not about political parties but in choosing the right people into leadership positions and going by this, “we have to look for someone who can unite the PDP and bring back credible leadership in governance”.
“Although you have served as a governor you cannot afford to be passive because situation will go from bad to worse. We need somebody who can get the people back into the fold and I have no doubt that you are one of those who can change the situation of things in the party and it is for this reason that I present myself for the position of chairman of the party in the forthcoming National Convention holding in December, 2017.
