HAVING concluded their official tour of all the 36 states of Nigeria since six days ago, the duo of the LP presidential and vice presidential candidates continued to campaign by reaching the hitherto unreached. While HE Peter Obi visits some states to interact with students, traders and people of selected towns and cities, (he was in Owerri yesterday morning), his running mate, Sen Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed touched down in Asaba Airport enroute the palace of the Obi of Onitsha.
About 11:25am, the highly cerebral vice presidential candidate of LP arrived the palace in company of few dignitaries. He waited for some minutes before going to have a closed-door meeting with the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe.
This visit to His Majesty by Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed will have a place in history as the first vice presidential candidate of Northern extraction to visit the massive edifice at Onitsha especially at a time we are clamouring for the birth of a new Nigeria in which our nation is truly bound in freedom, peace and unity, and where peace and justice shall forever reign.
For us to achieve our dream nation, it will require the cooperation of our traditional rulers across the 774 LGAs of Nigeria. And recognizing this fact, the incoming Obi-Datti administration will not leave our traditional institution behind. To fight the seemingly insurmountable insecurity situation bedeviling our society today requires the power of our traditional rulers; hence HE Peter Obi will assuredly work with them to address such challenges facing our dear country.
It is apparent and glaringly true that when elected in the February 25th presidential poll, we will be getting two presidents in one. Yes, the Kaduna-born economist much as he shall be the vice president has all it takes to act as president in the absence of his principal unlike some VP candidates who would be mere figure heads.
Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed exhibited this capacity in Onitsha yesterday when delivering his speech to Agbogidi; the Obi of Onitsha and his cabinet members. Let us therefore make history together by shunning voter apathy, resisting voter suppression, and rejecting vote bribery next Saturday. Our present sufferings can only be ended by voting HE Peter Obi and Sen Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed on the ballot marked LP with our PVC.
