Politics
CHARLES Oputa popularly known as Chally Boy and AreaFada has criticized the way Afe Babalola, SAN, instigated the arrest of Dele Farotimi over allegation of defamation.
Chalky Boy made the criticism in a tweet on his X official handle at the weekend stating that “Afe Babalola, a renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is indeed an iconic figure in Nigeria’s legal landscape. At 95 years old, one would expect him to be enjoying the fruits of his labor and basking in the legacy he has built over the years. Shey we go dey wonda why Gen Z’s no longer get respect for old age, abi?”
According to him, “The adoption (abduction) of my dear friend Dele Farotimi’ don show say this old man maybe a bitter and miserable. It’s really disheartening to see him, and others like him, being perceived as using their age and influence to further personal agendas. This not only undermines the respect due to their age and experience but also perpetuates a culture of impunity and disregard for the law.”
Part of the tweet stated that “The Nigerian police force, in particular, has a critical role to play in upholding justice and maintaining law and order. It’s high time they stopped being seen as “errand boys” and took their responsibility to protect citizens and uphold the law seriously.
“The fact that a respected figure like Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is perceived to be disregarding judicial principles and acting ruthlessly in pursuit of personal justice is a sad commentary on the state of our justice system. It highlights the decay in the system and the ignoble characters of some of its operators. This would have killed my father if he was still alive.
“”Na wa for this our country oo” People we bin dey look up to don squander dia respect.
Indeed, it’s time for reflection and change. We need to reclaim our values of respect, justice, and fairness, and ensure that our institutions, including the police and the judiciary, are strengthened to uphold these values.”
