WITH three Gold, four Silver and nine Bronze medals, Katsina State Government says it has recorded huge success at the just concluded 21st National Sports Festival (NSF) in Delta State.
Mr Nasir Gide, the spokesperson of the state’s Sports Council, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Katsina.
According to the spokesperson, the state contingent at the festival has recorded the best outing in the history of the festival.
Gide added that the state recorded the success mostly in combat sports, especially traditional boxing (Dambe), Judo, Taekwondo, boxing and wrestling among other sporting events in the competition.
It also did well in Golf.
He said, “Commenting on the success recorded by Team Katsina, the Director of sports, Alhaji Umar Aliyu-Saulawa, expressed gratitude to the athletes.
“Aliyu-Saulawa, who described the success as historic, noted that the state has not won a Gold medal at the NSF since the year 2011.
“The Sports Director attributed the success to the support and cooperation given by Gov. Aminu Masari and the state’s Commissioner for Sports, Dr Bishir Gambo-Saulawa.”
According to Gide, the director revealed that there was the need for the state government to place some of the athletes on monthly allowances for the state to continue excelling in all aspects of sports.
Gide reported Aliyu-Saulawa as assuring the state of the readiness of the Sports Council to continue doing the needful for the overall development of sports in the state. (NAN)
