THE Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), has begun desilting of drains within the capital territory and its environs ahead of the rainy season.

Mr Patrick Ukah, the Director-General of the agency, told newsmen on Thursday in Asaba that the exercise was intended to improve environmental cleanliness, reduce pollution, diseases and enhance the aesthetics of the capital city.

“It is also to rid the state capital of flood-related issues. We want to achieve absolute cleanliness on the streets of Asaba and we have started by cleaning up the drains,” he said.

He appealed to residents and business owners to imbibe self-discipline by not throwing refuse and waste items into the drains to avoid blockage, especially during the rainy season.

“A monitoring team will be set up to ensure total compliance with revised sanitation regulations to solidify the efforts of the government,” Ukah said.(NAN)
