Delta holds workshop for 135 skills trainers

DELTA has organised a workshop for trainers at its Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) for the 2022 cycle.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop, holding in Asaba has 135 verified trainers selected by the Delta State Job and Wealth Creation Bureau in attendance.

Addressing participants, head of the bureau, Prof. Eric Eboh, said the workshop would help participants to familiarise themselves with the rules, regulations and code of conduct guiding of STEP training.

He listed skills available in the 2022 STEP training cycle as catering and confectionery, tiling and interlocking, hairdressing and braiding; audio-visual-services, electrical and solar works, Plaster of Paris (PoP), screed-making and painting.

Eboh added that the training duration would be between four months and five months.

He said Delta had trained and established 6,075 youths in businesses through STEP and through the Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme since 2015.

He commended Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa for the support given to the programme since inception till date, stressing that the 2022 STEP cycle is the seventh in the series.

In his remarks, Mr Edward Mekwunye, Executive Assistant to the governor on Youth Monitoring and Mentoring, lauded the workshop.

He emphasised that the Directorate of Youth Monitoring and Mentoring was established to ensure the success of the job-creation and empowerment programmes of the state government.

Also speaking at the workshop, Mrs Nora Mcwhite, a trainer in PoP, Screed-Making and Painting, lauded STEP as a veritable job creation programme. (NAN)
